Work has been progressing on site at our London project in Elizabeth Mews, Belsize Park. The stripped-down old brick walls at the perimeters of the site and the otherwise hidden framework of the timbers within, temporarily reveal a wealth of space impossible to imagine before. The beauty and the integrity of the small-scale Victorian structure is worth admiring, even if temporarily…..
Various historic interventions and the inevitable damage caused to the timbers in particular, require much repair and replacement. For this we introduce new, untreated sawn timbers as we plan to maintain some of this work exposed in the finished building.
In order to aid the timbers achieving bigger structural spans we also add steelwork as flitch-beams or portal frames. The back-bone of the future; the new floors and walls are emerging slowly.
