SPA has given Titus (a high school student doing work experience) the opportunity to write a blog post detailing his impression of our South Hill Park project and the practice:
Work Experience with SPA allows an insight into the world of architecture, yet also highlights the breadth of the skills involved in the profession. Help from SPA’s team, which varies from tutorials to simple conversations gives: knowledge, footholds and an approach to help tackle the steep learning curve I am faced with. These experiences have helped mould my perspective of the task architects are challenged with.
During my first 2 days, I was shown how design is such an integral part of the process that is building a project. Then on the 3rd day, I was able to observe the intricately designed drawings forming a physical structure. This experience, involved me marvelling at how this bare shell of a building would become a family home and how I could see the basis of the architects designs coming to life even in this early stage. My mind was engrossed by this spectacle!
I became entranced in photographing areas of the building site, which I believe was eloquent of my interest in it. I have selected a few of my personal favourite photos to display, which I believe capture areas of particular interest.
This picture captures how SPA uses both new and original walls to create a contrast of modernity and tradition. |
The stage is set, as the Quantity Surveyor, the Architect,
the Sub-Contractors and Foreman (see above and below).
