Current exhibition in Palazzo Venier shows Peggy’s amazing art collection and in particular her acquisitions since establishing the Collection in Venice. Gwyther Irvin’s work ‘Serendipity 2’ from 1957 resonates particularly loudly with us. The depth of the otherwise 2D work he achieved by layering old newspaper, discarded posters and scraps of paper onto the canvas, resembles interior walls of old buildings with their multiple layers of historic wallpaper and linings. Before embarking on the redevelopment we witness so many glimpses into previous incarnations of the building and the lives that carried on within. Magic.
