Our Grade ll Listed House project in Hampstead is reaching its final stages of work on site. Currently we are assisting the joiner with his preparations for the fabrication and installation of joinery. The now inconspicuous niche with the ladder is soon to be transformed.
These colourful shop-drawings, not dissimilar to a sawing pattern for a dress, aid the purchase of material, the cutting, making and assembling of the elements which come together to make a new staircase-cum-study-nook.
The bespoke plywood staircase not only connects two floors, but also integrates a smart storage and a built-in desk, making the most of every inch of space. The ply lining on the surrounding walls provides both the invisible support for the stairs and a welcoming warmth of wood panelling surrounding a place of work.
It is a perfect blend of function and form, tailored to fit lightly and seamlessly within the Listed environment. It brings in a contemporary feel while re-interpreting historic features that surround it. We are literally counting days until we see it all come to life!
